Contracts Specialist
Location
Johns Creek, Georgia
Purpose
To support, protect, and strengthen the business by ensuring consistent and effective management of all contracts, including leveraging of technology to improve enterprise efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists in creating and implementing the enterprise contracts handling process
- Develops and maintains various contract forms and templates, and acts as the enterprise central handler of same
- Implements and maintains a technologically-based contracts management and analytics system solution
- Effectively utilizes technology systems, tools, and processes to accomplish job functions and monitor performance
- Assumes an active role advocating the legal department’s contract management and analytics initiatives within the enterprise
- Prepares reports for management on the status of contracts
- Drafts, analyzes, structures, revises, and negotiates proposals, permits, licenses, and various other standard and nonstandard contractual agreements and contract provisions (collectively, “contract(s)”)
- Ensures the appropriate biases are applied to contract verbiage, in accordance with the enterprise party position in a particular contract
- Ensures that contracts align with corporate goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
- Conducts research and analysis of applicable federal, state and local laws, rules, and regulations, as necessary, and ensures that contracts comply with same
- Collaborates with team members to share the learning and experience obtained in contract negotiations
- Develops good relationships with internal business partners to learn and assess the key strategies and goals of each contracting client, including their risk tolerances
- Responds to requests and escalations from internal business partners on contracts management issues, policies, and procedures
- Maintains a focus that balances the needs of the business for profitability with ensuring that contractual terms and conditions protect the company and minimize risk
- Provides or facilitates both company-wide and individual training on contracts management issues, policies, and procedures

- Requirements
- The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job
- 3+ years of work experience with reviewing, drafting and negotiating legal terms and conditions on a broad range of standard and nonstandard commercial contracts
- Must possess and demonstrate exceptional legal writing skills, along with excellent communication skills in general
- Must have a strong understanding of legal verbiage and contract provisions in a wide variety of business applications and legal venues
- Knowledge and experience in contract management, execution, discipline, processes, strategy and technologies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Must have solid analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
- Ability to prioritize workload, self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks, and to meet challenging business deadlines
- Capacity to work a flexible weekly work schedule
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of working as a contracts manager and/or administrator
- Work experience in the capacity of a paralegal or other comparable experience within a law firm or corporate legal department
- Experience with the wood products industry
